Pet Travel Crates

Crates

Choosing the right travel crate is crucial for the safe transportation of your pet.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has established specific guidelines that every pet kennel must meet for air travel.

These regulations ensure that
your pet remains secure and comfortable throughout the journey, whether it's a short domestic flight or a long international trip.

At Global Pets, we recognize the complexities of selecting the right crate for your pet’s journey.

The size, design, and material of the kennel are crucial factors in meeting airline standards and ensuring your pet’s well-being. The kennel must be spacious enough for your pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.

Additionally, it should be constructed from sturdy, non-toxic materials and feature adequate ventilation on at least three sides to provide a steady flow of fresh air.

Specific Requirements

Specific breeds may need customized kennels, particularly brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds, which are prone to respiratory issues.

A crate that is too small, poorly ventilated, or made from unsuitable materials can pose serious risks to your pet's health and safety during the flight.

Danger

Given these considerations, we strongly recommend consulting our team before purchasing a travel kennel.

Our experts can assess your pet’s needs, considering their size, breed, and any special requirements, to recommend a kennel that meets all IATA regulations and ensures a safe and comfortable journey.

The Best Travel Crate for Your Pet?

We strongly recommend consulting our team before purchasing a travel kennel.

To ensure you choose the correct kennel, you need to accurately measure your pet.

Ensure your pet is standing up while you take the measurements.
Five important measurements to take:

  1. Length: From the tip of the nose to the base of the tail.

  2. Paw Height: From the top of the front paw to the feet.

  3. Height: From the top of the front paw to the tip of the ears.

  4. Width: Across the shoulders (or the widest point of the body).

  5. Weight: Your pet’s total body weight.

Calculating the Correct Travel Crate Size:

  • Length: The crate should be the length of your pet, plus half the chest height.

  • Width: The width of the crate should be twice the width of your pet.

  • Height: The crate height should be your pet's overall height, plus 10cm.

Measures

This Is an Illustrative Guide: Using these guidelines will help you select a kennel that provides enough space for your pet to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably.

Brachycephalic breeds, also known as snub-nosed or short-nosed dogs, have unique facial structures that can make air travel more challenging due to their increased risk of breathing difficulties.

Common brachycephalic breeds include: Affenpinscher (all breeds), Boston Terrier, Boxer (all breeds), Brussels Griffon, Bulldog (all breeds), Cane Corso, Chow Chow, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Mastiff (all breeds), Pit Bull, Presa Canario, Pug (all breeds), Pekingese.

When selecting a kennel for a brachycephalic breed, it's essential to choose one that provides more space than the basic measurements. The kennel should be larger than the minimum required dimensions to ensure your pet has enough room to move and breathe comfortably. Always opt for a kennel with measurements that exceed the basic size recommendations to enhance your pet's comfort and safety during the journey.
